The heraldry of ‘The Ancient House of Yardley’ is a recent and newly created set that has been specially devised to represent the Yardley Family Name and History, the places and, most especially the people and their achievements, talents and skills. There is deep meaning and relevance to the entire design of this creation which has been made ‘in the private’ and not in the public for specific reason! The rules and procedures for heralds, arms and crests dates back to the eleventh and twelfth centuries when they were first put into use for knights and aristocratic or noble families. To this day there is a specific process as well as terms of eligibility in order to be able to ‘claim’ ones family heralds which has to be proven by a male line of ancestry too. However, ancestry is difficult to prove in many instances due to the loss of so many records and such over the centuries (fires, wars, etc.). Further, there also has to be ‘permission’ granted for new heralds and arms under the official terms of the ‘heralds office’ and these are not created by the individual but ‘for’ them at the hands and decisions of others and, should such be allowed to go ahead, will be financially costly and would require the approval of monarchy! However, why remain ‘in the public system’ when you can create your own in the private – without special permission and such? So we did.
